Military weapons, strategies, & battles By Eric Polanski
The, medieval times were an interesting and violent time, noble's greed lead to many wars & many arguments so what the people of the medieval times did is create a plethora of different weapons to help in these fights. Popular weapons include axes, swords, bows and there were much of different variation of axes, swords, and bows which you could train with. Knights used these items the most because they had to use them to protect whatever it was that they were protecting, knights had a lot of training and were mostly skilled with the mace, lance, sword, and longbow. When there were war's people would also use siege weapons to well, siege land. These weapons include catapults, trebuchet, ballista, battering ram, mangonel, siege tower, and many more. Siege weapons were mainly used to invade castles. Medieval warfare before siege weapons was petty, they would harass and raid, then land rather than having a fight with dignity. There are many of the important battles including Agincourt, the battle of Tours, Hasting, Hattin and many more with caused casualties and changes in land ownership. These fights mainly started because people were greedy and wanted a lot of land. The longest war was the 100-year war which if you can't tell by the name of the war, it lasted 100 years and England & France fought in this war. Medieval wars are interesting and there are so many weapons that had so many uses and it's interesting to see how creative the people in the medieval history were, they were innovative and thought many of the weapons were not popularly used, there were much of weapons which were renowned by everyone. The siege weapons were expensive and most were hard to transport, but worked if used right. There was plenty of fights in medieval history most being small fights for land, but the big fights have impacted us to this day in ways that we may not even necessarily know.
Role of the Church in Medieval life By Eric Polanski
The, church was a big part of life during the medieval times, whether you were a king, or a peasant you still followed the beliefs of god. The church was powerful in the western world, it often influenced the laws of the state and would use its influence to increase its followers past western Europe. The most powerful members of the church hierarchy was not the pope but actually the local priest, they kept the people believing in the church, in a way they are like construction workers, they build everything and are underappreciated. People would go to church every time 2-3 times per day, once in the morning, once during the day, and once in the evening, and they would pay heavy taxes to the church to keep the church afloat. Some people prayed all day and did hard work in the name of the lord, these people were called monks and nuns, they prayed all day, they could not marry, they could not have land, and all the work they did was to support the church. A lot of people did follow the church but there were also some who didn't, these people were called heretics, heretics were people who publicly disowned the church and did not follow the Cannon law (church's code of law), these people were typically killed & tortured. The church was controlling and if they didn't get what they wanted then they wanted from the people or manors they would interdict that person, which means that they would disallow the person/area to pray. For a individual, they would tell them not to come to church and to stop any religious practices, while as if it was an entire area that was interdicted then they would have to shut down the church to make the people fear and respect the church. In conclusion, the church was vast, they made people have their whole lives surround the church, and the church would kill just to get what they want.
